Although it is nestled in the south east corner of the
country, it is highly likely to be easier than you think
to reach London. Trains, as long as they are booked in
advance, can be very cheap. There are other options too,
such as National Express Coaches and the Megabus, which
can mean that getting to London does not have to cost
the earth, or even take a long time.
From outside the United Kingdom too, London is very
easy to reach. With a large number of airports in easy
reach of the capital, it has never been easier to simply
hop onto a plane from anywhere in Europe, or indeed the
rest of the world, and be in the centre of London within
only a few hours.
Heathrow airport can even be reached on the tube, and
is in Zone 6 of the tube network. Catching a tube from
Central London to Heathrow Airport will take as little
as 40 minutes. Travellers should take the Piccadilly Line.
Alternatively, Stanstead Airport in Essex and Gatwick
Airport in Sussex are also within very easy reach. The
Gatwick Express train, which leaves from most major London
over ground stations, can take as little as 30 minutes
to reach the airport and will cost less than £20.
Rail links to everywhere else in the United Kingdom
are exceptionally good, with the main stations being Kings
Cross St Pancras International, Victoria and Euston. Express
trains from these stations, as well as from other major
rail stations in Central London, mean that the Yorkshire
Dales can be reached in less than 2 hours, the North West
coast in less than 3 hours and Edinburgh in around 5 hours.
For students and those wanting to save money, one good
option for travelling to London is the Megabus. The Megabus
runs all across the country, from the majority of towns
and cities, and offers travel at a very cheap price. Booking
seats from northern towns to London in advance means travellers
can pay as little as £1 return, and even when booking
only a few days before the seats will never be more than
£15.
